By the end of the NACI PD course teachers will be able to

• Honor and analyze their own culture and Native American cultures by creating a [artistic artifact] that explores culture and identity;
• Empathize with Native American Tribes in Utah by reflecting and synthesizing what they learned while exploring interactive timelines that represent the past and present context of each socially and politically distinct tribe
• Select accurate and authentic resources by practicing strategies for identifying culturally responsible resources
• Articulate their own principles/framework for culturally responsive teaching that elucidates the connections they have made between their own culture, their student’s cultures, their teaching practice, and the NACI model through a written reflection, artistic work, or video presentation.

Each course will be moderated by a facilitator from the BYU ARTS Partnership Leadership Team. You are given one year to complete the course. The suggested completion time is four months.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Macro-economics will be the main focus of this class, but micro and macroeconomics co-exist and compliment one another and there will be some blending of topics within this course. This online course will incorporate elements from the Annenberg Media program: Economics U$A: 21st Century Edition. We will also be looking at many resources and videos from around the Web while introducing you to methods that will help you develop your own classroom applications. This course will explore economic history, theory, and practice through case studies and interviews with Nobel-prize winning and major economists. This course will provide a solid foundation for teaching the concepts covered in high school economics courses. In addition to defining economic concepts and outlining modern economic theory, the programs review the national standards for economics education and provide effective lesson plans and classroom strategies. These online USBE CANVAS courses have been designed for active educators who are working on fulfilling the requirements for specific social studies endorsements. While the courses are not completely self-paced, they are asynchronous. Coursework unlocks weekly, so that the participants engage in the course material as a cohort, one week at a time. COURSE DESCRIPTION: This is 12-week online secondary social studies methods course that will help you teach 7-12th grade social studies classes. The course uses current research and theory to prepare students with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to effectively teach a diverse array of students. Weekly participation is expected. There will be a variety of formal and informal discussions and activities. This course has been designed as a cooperative effort between the Utah State Office of Education, the Utah Education Network, and Axel Donizetti Ramirez, a professor of education at Utah Valley University.

Instructional Goals: Prepare you, the teacher, to help students understand the complexity and meaning of social studies education. Give teachers resources and examples for teaching social studies with best practice and theory. Help teachers meet state and national expectations of social studies teaching and learning. Focus on mastery of subject matter and student outcomes. Explore inquiry as an important tool for teaching social studies. Create an atmosphere of professionalism and respect. These online USBE CANVAS courses have been designed for active educators who are working on fulfilling the requirements for specific social studies endorsements. Educators will: 1) develop a personalized learning plan becoming more competent and self-reflective about one’s practices in the classroom for the purpose of increased professionalism within both the school and neighborhood communiti

This instruction will provide examples to educators on the opportunities for each student to actively engage in civic life. Each training session will provide context on how the Constitution impacts daily life and covers a topic in the book, Developing Digital Detectives by Jennifer L

The purpose of this training is to provide instruction to K-12 classroom educators and teacher librarians on how to embed Constitutional, information and media literacy skills in ELA and Social Studies curriculum. This instruction will provide examples to educators on the opportunities for each student to actively engage in civic life. We plan to invite the authors to expound on their work in person or virtually with each cohort. In order for educators to complete the challenges they will submit evidence of application in their curriculum. We plan to gather data on student learning using pre/post assessment and student and parent feedback through a digital survey. The training will be offered for 3 years, with a new cohort of teachers each year.
