Scaffolding | Scaffolding supports for these materials are complex and challenging, engage learners from various skill levels, assist all students in enhancing conceptual understanding, and offer opportunities for students to share evidence and research. | Scaffolding supports for these materials engage learners from various skill levels and assist students in enhancing conceptual understanding. | Scaffolding supports for these materials engage learners from various skill levels. | Scaffolding supports for these materials do not engage learners.
Scaffolding supports are more than sufficient for students with low achievement, ELL's, students with IEP and students with 504's. Students of varying learning types will benefit from the varying resources: videos, audio readings, graphic organizers, and additional functions integrated with the textbook (Google Drive, the Cloud, etc.). The ability to cite information on an outside LMS and to create notes for each student, highlight relevant information, and link to a personal portfolio is an unprecedented feature and will be of significant use for students and teachers alike. Integrated quizzes and assessments help students with immediate formative feedback and summative assessment. Some activities (like the personality colour test, 7 perspectives of psychology, or why women weren't involved in psychology) will not be engaging for students, but are not fully developed enough for a teacher to implement without significant altering of the fundamental activity.
Navigation | Students can navigate the material independently. Instructions are clear and understandable. | The material contains instructions that are understandable and easy to navigate. Students may need educator support to navigate material. | The material may be used with direct educator support but lacks clear instructions. | The instructions in this material are unclear, and navigation is difficult.
The online textbook is easy to navigate through when going page by page, but finding the chapter material and links to outside sources was not coherent or easily navigable. Navigating to test material and lecture notes is difficult and convoluted, often times unachievable. The teacher resources left much to be desired (like fuller lecture notes, links to outside resources from places like National Geographic, basic level activities that would require less adaptation for DOK levels 1, 2, and 3, etc.). Instructional tools linked to Mindtap are not readily visible to teacher are requires a steep learning curve for teacher implementation. |

The material has limited options to address the needs of diverse learners. | The material is not adaptable or easily incorporated into various educational settings or with various diverse learners.
Materials are not cohesively integrated between teacher and student, creating a disconnect between learning and assessments. Built-in applications in the sidebar of the student page do create a litany of opportunities for students to engage in their learning and to build upon foundational knowledge. With the ability to assign note cards to a class, teachers will be able to help individually or as a collective whole. The addition of the ReadSpeaker will help greatly with students with low achievement, ELL's, students with IEP and students with 504's |
