This edition of American Pageant divides the narrative of American history into nine parts. Each part opens with an introductory essay highlighting major themse and perspectives to help students discover complex patterns of change over time and organize events, actions, and ideas into meaningful chains of cause and consequence. Each part contains conflicting quotations from original historical sources accompanied by questions that encourage critical thinking. Also included are sections that highlight historiographical debates and research on different kinds of primary sources.
