Evaluation

This is a good resource for students and educators and aligns with all US II core standards and lower grade levels which focus on US History concepts and topics. Multiple sources, including primary and secondary sources were consulted when creating this textbook. There are document based questions and analyses within the units to further align with the standards. There were several interactive lessons and activities in this resource. Several sections have component called Through the Lens which contains photographs of events or topics in history for students to do a primary source analysis.

This textbook contains key vocabulary words which are highlighted. Each page can be read aloud which is beneficial for students with disabilities (i.e. IEP, 504) including 3 levels of reading speed. There is the ability to zoom in and out of the pages to help students see the images more clearly. Each unit contains a review and wrap up section at the end with multiple questions at different DOK levels including document based questions and analysis. Several sections have component called Through the Lens which contains photographs of events or topics in history for students to do a primary source analysis.

In terms of culture, this textbook explains more about the peoples of the United States from Reconstruction to present day. There is a huge section of review of US history I topics like the Revolution, Constitution, and the Civil War, including information about the early peoples of the US, Native Americans, enslaved people, etc. This section focuses on the Progressive Movement, focusing on farmers, Americans at home and abroad during the World Wars, the Civil Rights movement, and our interaction in the world during the Cold War.
