Evaluation

This is a very robust science curriculum. It contains a lot of resources for teachers and students. The teacher manual for the unit is rather lengthy and contains a large amount of material. The online platform does include implementation plans, PD videos, and science background information for teachers. The lessons are scaffolded and well explained for both teachers and students. The materials represent diversity and appear accessible, or adaptable to most students. The online piece allows teachers to manage classes and assignments online. The lessons contain cross curricular ELA alignment and the books are offered in English and Spanish. The lessons begin with a driving question that sometimes contains a phenomenon that is being observed, and could be supplemented with actual images or video of the phenomenon that go with the question. There are pieces missing from the curriculum for alignment with the Utah SEEd standards for 1st grade and will require supplemental materials. The materials suggest that there are consumable materials for students to use for recording observations, thoughts, and ideas, but this material is not viewable online. This could be used as a foundation with the understanding that it is not complete.
