Evaluation

While some of the material meets some of the standards, overall, we recommend to reject this material on these grounds: Some of the material violates this code: 53G-10-402 Instruction in health -- Parental consent requirements -- Conduct and speech of school employees and volunteers -- Political and religious doctrine prohibited.

  1. (iii) prohibit instruction in: (A) the intricacies of intercourse, sexual stimulation, or erotic behavior; (B) the advocacy of premarital or extramarital sexual activity This course includes wording such as: “Most people will have sex at some point in their lives, and presumably, when they do, they want it to be a good experience. Here are questions to reflect upon as we go through the activities today. • Is good sex mostly about techniques, moves? Hot looks? Body part sizes? One’s individual desires? • Are there other elements that contribute to good sex? And if so, what might they be?” It also talks about casual and relational sex, which violate 2.B.: “For some (who chose to “hook up’ and have sex,) it may be working fine, but for a sizeable number of teens and young college students who’ve been surveyed, it may not be bringing sexual pleasure, satisfaction, or happiness. Yet, most will say there is a social pressure to engage in casual or hookup sex or to think they should.” “There’s little research specifically on LGBTQ+ teens regarding their experience or satisfaction with the hookup culture. While teen gay guys may get onto hookup apps (lie about their age), there are few online places to form friendships and relationships. One survey of young gay males found that the number one thing desired, but lacking, was “intimacy”.8 We need more research in this area.”
