Evaluation

The No Red Ink digital writing platform is a teacher/student resource for grades 3-5. This resource is not recommended for elementary students due to not including texts to write from nor explicit writing instruction. This dashboard is mainly grammar exercises or prompt writing.

Secondary Level Writing- NoRedInk Recommended Limited I would recommend this as a supplementary resource for student writing instruction. Content Alignment 1 The content aligns with appropriate grade level Core standards in writing.
Scaffolding 3 This resource provides writing assistance for all students to enhance conceptual understanding. This is done through use of tutorials, practice, scaffolding practice, quick writing application, and assessments. Navigation 3 This resource is organized, but it can feel overwhelming. It would take some time and training before an educator could properly use it. Accessibility Bias Free 3 The material is free from bias. Stick figure cartoons are used as visual aids and example sentences are nonbiased.
Adaptability 3 The teacher can assign modules based on student need. It wouldn’t be difficult for a teacher to use the content in a small group setting. Technical Standards 1 This resource is meant to be used online. Access to computers, internet, and technical assistance would be required. Pedagogy Physical Characteristics 3 This resource is online and provides detailed writing instruction tutorials and assignments. The interface is clean and well organized.
Note: Due to the amount of information, it may be overwhelming to some educators. Instructional Support 1 This resource provides very little instructional support. Schools would have to pay for “Premium Training” access to get instructional support. Supplemental Resources 1 This resource is a supplemental resource. Assessments 3 The course contains formative and summative assessments that are aligned with core writing objectives.
