Materials do not include opportunities to practice writing words introduced in reading instruction and use them to write a response to what students have read. Materials are not designed with activities for students to write about what they have read, both literary and informational text (e.g., summaries, reactions, analysis or interpretation of text, notes, ask/answer questions). Do not align to the new ELA Standards where students are asked to write argumentative writing beginning in 3rd grade. Appeal Evaluation: Writing A-Z is a supplemental program for writing.
The review was for the written instructional lessons that would be taught by the teacher, not online activities. Writing A-Z meets the threshold in writing with 86%. The program meets the criteria set forth in SB 127 for writing for tier 1 instruction.
