While this material maps well to state standards, it could stand some reworking when it comes to order of presentation to the student. Rather than rethink the structure of the course as standards change and content is added, the publisher seems to tack new content onto the end of existing sections. This often results in disproportionately lengthy sections and subsections that feel out of place.

Assessments are effective for various reasons outlined in this review, but the lab reports for lab simulations ("You failed these particular tasks; Here's how you complete the lab") are too detailed. Students tend to quickly fail labs in order to access that list of steps, then follow them to completion. TestOut should revisit these lab reports to make them less of a cheat sheet.

TestOut is primarily known for their lab simulations, but there are several sections in this course that do not have corresponding labs.

This is still the best available learning system for the Linux Fundamentals course, but TestOut needs
