Level 3 – Story 3 – When I Was Eight (56 pages) targets the long ‘a’ ‘eigh’ sound. The Stories Main Idea/Theme is: I Can Appreciate Modern Transportation, a wonderful poem about long ago transportation, written in slant manuscript.

It features; long ‘a’ words, phonetically regular words, synonyms for modern: up-to-date, up-to-the-minute, brand new, etc., the cloze procedure, the ‘i’ before ‘e’ rule and exceptions, understanding word endings, homonyms, proofreading, words that do not belong, inferring from context, using the word ‘I’ correctly and idioms for the word ‘ice.’
