Description
Level 1 – Story 11 – Elf Eck, teaches about the letter ‘e’ in writing and its sound. It shows the difference between the short ‘a’ and the short ‘e’ sound which is confusing to many students. The traditional teaching of the ‘a e i o u’ manner challenges many students and the ‘a i o u e’ presentation lessens this confusion of sound indentification.

Stories Main Idea/Theme: I Will Help Where I Am Needed.

Elf Eck words with the middle vowel sound, the ‘k’ and hard ‘c’ review, the ‘ck’ sound and rule, the ending ‘y’ rule, the ‘z’ sound, and the ‘qu’ sound. It also teaches about categorizing short vowel sounds, the letter ‘x’ and x rule and the letter ’z’. Opposites and nouns are also emphasized.

The science section summarizes and very fun topic of how a chick escapes from its shell.

As with all stories in the CompuRead series, each is organized in the same format of nine steps, increasing in difficulty and skills as: 1) Main Idea, 2) Title, Background and Summary, 3) Narrated Without Interruption, 4) Phonics, Straight and Slant Manuscript, Cursive Writing and Spelling, 5) Fiction and Nonfiction Writing, 6) Vocabulary and Expressive Speaking, 7) Science Background, 8) Story Mapping and, 9) Home Fun.
