Benchmark Phonics Intervention provides intensive instruction of foundational literacy skills. The program is a Tier II or Tier III phonics intervention program which delivers systematic and explicit phonics instruction for students performing 2-3+ years below grade level, including students with dyslexia or other learning challenges. The design of the materials are respectful of older learners still working on mastering skills and content from previous grades, with text variety and visual appeal to engage student interest.

Benchmark Phonics Intervention focuses on students’ phonics and decoding skills, along with building knowledge and vocabulary to increase comprehension. Benchmark Phonics Intervention carefully connects and integrates both Foundational Reading-Skill (e.g., accessing print and orthographic mapping of words) and Knowledge-Based competencies (e.g., vocabulary and content knowledge) to support students who require additional instruction and practice to become successful readers of grade-level text. 

Each of the four instructional levels in Benchmark Phonics Intervention include 30 skill-based units. In each unit, students engage with a consumable Reading Collection book that includes a set of texts that are aligned to ten knowledge-building topic strands in the domains of history, social studies, science, and ELA.
