Das Reporterteam is a student-centered, performance-based German program for middle and high school learners. Intentionally aligned with ACTFL's World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages and Utah World Languages Core Standards for Proficiency, Das Reporterteam 1 supports student progression from Novice Low to Novice High proficiency.

Grounded in communicative language teaching and project-based learning, the program builds real-world communication skills through scaffolded tasks such as skits, interviews, blog posts, and podcasts. Each unit follows a backward design model guided by ACTFL Can-Do Statements and integrates all three modes of communication- interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational- through engaging, real-world tasks.

Framed by two Essential Questions, each unit is introduced by a native teen from Germany, Austria, or Switzerland- one of the "Reporterteam"- whose story provides cultural context and motivation. Units culminate in creative, collaborative projects that foster critical thinking, personal expression, and intercultural competence.

Authentic texts and media- including videos, sitcom clips, and fashion blogs- bring language and culture to life. Each level features six thematic units, along with detailed pacing guides, ready-to-use assessments, rubrics, and planning tools that support streamlined implementation. Research-based and validated by Johns Hopkins as an ESSA Tier 4 program, Das Reporterteam promotes 21st-century skills and language proficiency. Digital access through The KWL Hub supports flexible, interactive learning- both online and offline.
