Description

Amplify ELA 6–8 is a comprehensive English Language Arts curriculum based on decades of work in middle grade classrooms. Research shows that students in this critical stage of development need varied interactions with a range of rich and diverse texts to build knowledge and grow their comprehension while also developing analytic reading and evidence-based writing skills. Amplify ELA features engaging student interactions and experiences alongside clear classroom routines to build a richly collaborative community where middle grade students thrive. It has earned all-green ratings and a perfect score on EdReports.

Centering an engaging blend of complex, content-rich literary and informational texts, Amplify ELA builds students’ knowledge while narrowing the vocabulary gap by helping students learn academic words within the context of reading. A critical subset of this text-based vocabulary is pulled into the Amplify Vocab App, in which students work daily at their own pace and level to master new words through game-like activities. Amplify ELA lessons also immerse students in texts through interactive close reading activities, integrated writing, and a range of speaking and listening activities aligned to grade-level expectations. Collaborative and multimodal activities engage students in a range of experiences, from storyboarding to Socratic seminars to immersive Quests, that harness multiple learning modes and use media tools, digital apps, and a variety of visual and physical experiences to strategically support and enhance student learning.

Amplify ELA’s hybrid curriculum, which includes both print and digital instruction, allows teachers to make choices about when their students use devices without compromising learning and still providing 100% standards coverage. Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles are at the heart of Amplify ELA, so the core curriculum is accessible to most students. For those needing additional help or added challenge, five levels of differentiation are embedded at point-of-use within the lessons. These scaffolds, along with additional support resources and activities found in the Amplify ELA Teacher Edition, help teachers to provide equal access to grade-level learning opportunities.
Embedded formative and summative assessments and built-in assessment, data, and reporting tools make it easy for teachers to see how their students are doing without interrupting instruction or waiting until the end of a marking period. Amplify ELA includes regular, integrated formative assessments throughout the program including analytic writing prompts, exit tickets, and daily independent readings that are accompanied by comprehension questions. Each core unit also provides a summative reading assessment, a summative essay, and performance tasks such as debates, fishbowl discussions, performances, and multimedia presentations. Built-in assessment tools, such as the Automated Writing Evaluation (AWE) tool and the Embedded Assessment Measure (EAM) work alongside Amplify’s differentiated supports and flexible small group activities to empower teachers to adjust their instruction in response to formative and summative assessment data.
Finally, licenses to Amplify ELA include access to the digital Amplify Library, which offers more than 700 classic and contemporary fiction and nonfiction texts suited to a wide range of abilities and interests, providing students far-ranging opportunities to learn, explore, imagine, and share. Teachers also have access to a range of optional instructional resources including additional Novel Guides, Skill Modules, poetry lessons developed in partnership with Poetry in America, and an Independent Reading Guide.
