Amplify Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) is a comprehensive English Language Arts curriculum that builds foundational language and literacy skills. The program presents standards-aligned, grade-level content at each grade, K-5. Amplify CKLA Grades K-2 develops these skills in a two-part program consisting of a Knowledge Strand and a Skills Strand.

The Skills Strand provides comprehensive instruction in foundational reading skills, such as phonological awareness, phonics, and word recognition; language skills, including conventions of English, spelling, and grammar; reading comprehension; and writing instruction. CKLA’s Skill Strand teaches the highly complex letter-sound correspondences of the English language in an explicit and systematic manner.

The Knowledge Strand is centered around complex narrative and informational read-aloud texts that focus on background knowledge and vocabulary acquisition, analysis of complex text, and speaking and listening. The Read-Aloud texts are grouped into academic domains, such as fables from around the world, insects, early Asian civilizations, the five senses, and mythology. These lessons create interactive opportunities for text-based questions, discussion, and writing. In Grades 3–5 CKLA is organized around integrated units of instruction. Many units have a single key literary or informational text, while others offer a collection of key texts connected by a domain or genre. These continue to build knowledge and skills from the K–2 curriculum, with integrated instruction.
