HMH Into Science program, is an engaging, flexible, student-centered program built with a phenomenon-based storyline. Its activity before content approach means all students are doing science at the beginning of each lesson. The program integrates science into ELA using hands-on activities and FUNomenal leveled readers. The leveled, narrative FUNomenal Readers teach science through storytelling and support ELA skills while guiding students through the process of investigating and understanding real-world science phenomena. Embedded within the program is social-emotional learning options for teachers to strengthen student awareness and social skills. Throughout the program, formative assessment is imbedded within the lessons. There are also summative assessments found at the unit level. Together, these assessments provide a flexible approach assessing student understanding. A digital-first development approach ensures easy access to all the components necessary for a successful implementation whether in-person or remote and includes digital-only activities to provide students with even more engaging opportunities to do science. The new streamlined Teacher and Student Activity Guides provide a consistent lesson structure and allow for a flexible implementation.

Student materials include the Student Activity Guide and FUNomenal Leveled Readers, available in print and digital. Teacher resources include Teacher Guide, FUNomenal Stories Flip Chart, and Activity Station cards (Gr 1-2), available in print and digital. Digital only materials include Assessment Guide, ELA Handbook, and Multilingual Glossary. Optional Activity Equipment Kits and Safety Kits are also available.
