Students will expand upon previously learned concepts in melody, such as pitch and tone. This textbook will also teach students a variety of new melody concepts, such as steps, skips, repeated tones, leaps, and shapes. Students will expand upon their knowledge of musical instruments in this installment of the series, learning a variety of new musical instruments visually and aurally. The families of instruments are also explored in this textbook. Several new tempo and dynamic concepts are introduced. Students will learn the terms accelerando, ritardando, crescendo, and decrescendo, and will learn how to use each of these properly in musical pieces, using both vocals and instruments. This textbook will expand upon the musical form learned in the previous textbook, as well as expanding upon this with new vocabulary, such as repeats, 1st and 2nd endings, fine, and DC al fine, and engage students in identifying the sections of various musical pieces. Students will also gain a greater understanding of music history and style, learning about music from several more different cultures and time periods.
