Assessment in Gifted Education is a required course for the Gifted/Talented Endorsement and is also beneficial for those not seeking an endorsement, but who want to understand how to use assessment to support advanced learners in the classroom. Participants will understand how to collect multiple types of assessment information so that all students are able to demonstrate their gifts and talents. They will understand how ongoing assessments such as pre- and post-, self-, performance-based, student led, and product-based assessments guide differentiation.

Participants will also begin to negotiate the complexities that go into identifying students who show a need for targeted instruction that nurtures their exceptional academic abilities. Participants will understand the importance of using non-biased, technically adequate, and equitable approaches in order to identify students from diverse backgrounds for gifted programs.

It is highly recommended that participants have taken the first course in the endorsement series, Learning, Development, and Individual Learning Differences in Gifted Education, prior to the Assessment course. However, those wishing to take the course anyway are encouraged to complete prerequisite reading prior to the beginning of class.

This course will run from January 17, 2020 - April 21, 2023
