Through a systems-change initiative, nine demonstration sites across the state tested a team-approach to coordinating services, braiding funding, and collaboratively supporting student on an individualized path to employment. Through this work, Customized Employment emerged as an effective approach for students with disabilities, including those with significant disabilities. Given that, all educators supporting students with disabilities should be familiar with this innovative and inclusive approach to employment. During this course you will learn the basic steps in Customized Employment, clarify your role in supporting a student receiving Customized Employment services, and learn strategies to be an effective Customized Employment team member. Course objectives: • Explain the primary steps in Customized Employment services. • Describe an educator's role in the delivery of Customized Employment services. • Describe the role of others in the delivery of Customized Employment services. • Name three strategies an educator can use to support Discovery. • Name three strategies an educator can use to support Customized Job Development. • Name three strategies an educator can use to support a student who is working.
