The Tanner Dance Program offers a series of six interactive professional development workshops. (Please see schedule below) These workshops are designed to address arts integration and provide hands-on activities that educators can take back to the classroom to enliven and strengthen lesson plans. This year we will be providing both an online option and an in person option. All workshops require participants to design curricula specific to their own teaching situations. All materials created in the workshop setting are usable in the classroom. Each workshop is 1.5 hours long, providing a total of 9 hours of professional development instruction. Participants will explore interdisciplinary models and create an individual lesson plan to implement in their classrooms with guidance and assistance from the workshop faculty. All lesson plans will be based on the Utah State Core Curriculum. At the conclusion of the workshop series, participants will have a total of four lessons and corresponding teaching materials to use in his/her teaching. Participants will be required to submit a portfolio that includes written reflections, examples of student work, and photographs. The workshop series will be accompanied by mentoring and side-by-side in-school training delivered by key Tanner Dance faculty or other workshop faculty. Mentoring involves a one hour phone or e-mail consultation with the classroom teacher prior to the mentor visiting the classroom. The mentor can spend one hour observing the participant teaching his/her lesson plan. The final hour will be utilized by the mentor to create a written reflection and provide feedback to the educator.

Schedule: all classes meet from 4:00-5:30 PM The first Tuesday of each month is on Zoom The second Tuesday of each month is in person at a designated Elementary School in Salt Lake City.
