SII 2022 - Secondary English Language Arts: Strategies for Success in Argumentative Writing – Grade 6 - 12 / Are you a new or veteran teacher searching for new ideas to teach argumentative texts and writing with your students? This is the class for you. Bring your own materials/curriculum and learn new strategies to engage your students and boost their skills.

2. SII 2022 - Secondary English Language Arts: Engagement and Endurance with Complex Text – Grade 6 - 12 / “My students struggle to read complex texts!” This is something we hear teachers say all the time. After completing this course, you will walk away with strategies and resources to engage your students and help them build endurance in reading complex texts. Bring your own materials/curriculum to integrate what you learn into your own practice. Goals and Objectives: • SWBAT: Plan how to utilize at least one new strategy in their curriculum/teaching. • SWABT: Walk away with resources they can use in their practice. • SWABT: Explicitly teach their students to engage and endure with complex text. • SWABT: Explicitly teach their students to read and write argumentative texts.

3. SII 2022 - Secondary English Language Arts: Informational Text and Writing - Grade 6 - 12 / Literacy instruction isn’t just for English Language Arts. Every subject requires students to read, understand, and use informational text. To be successful, students need to be able to think about and write about the material they read to make it their own. In this session, teachers will learn how to find and intentionally engage students in reading, organizing thoughts, and writing based on informational text.

ITEMS TO BRING TO CLASS: Participants are encouraged to bring a current or draft instructional unit or informational text, but not required.

4. SII 2022 - Secondary English Language Arts: Working Effectively with Adolescents with Reading Challenges - Grade 6 - 12 / Develop skills, strategies, and frameworks to help adolescents with reading challenges.
