2020 University of Utah Tanner Dance Summer Workshop

Face-to-face course

The University of Utah Tanner Dance Summer Teacher Workshop will be held from June 22-26, 2020. 9am-2pm. A key component of The University of Utah Tanner Dance is the Summer Professional Development Workshop. This workshop allows participants to engage in an in-depth, week long intensive, and individual experience in arts integration in the classroom. The workshop teaches participants to incorporate dance, visual art and literature into the elementary teaching curricula and runs concurrently with the summer session of the Tanner Dance Program at the University of Utah. Teachers attending the workshop spend their mornings devoted to developing practical technical training of the body; understanding the craft of dance through the elements of time, space, and energy; (9:00 a.m. to noon). In the afternoon teachers (1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.) explore visual art experiences that demonstrate dance and visual art relationships; and creating teaching tools. Teachers will also observe dance classes throughout the week to demonstrate the use of movement in the classroom. There are $250.00 scholarships available for the first 25 teachers who register. Teachers who receive a scholarship will still need to pay a $75.00 materials fee.
