Google Apps provide educators with a variety of tools to optimize workflow, analyze and interpret data, and organize course and school materials more effectively. This microcredential focuses on demonstrating competency with a range of Google Apps, including Sheets, Forms, Calendar, Gmail, Google Classroom, Google Sites, and Blogger, as well as the use of various Google Chrome Extensions and Application Add-Ons.

DESCRIPTION

To earn this 0.5 credit microcredential you will submit 2 types of evidence from the list below to demonstrate your competency in using advanced G-Suite tools to optimize workflow, analyze and interpret data, and organize course and school materials more effectively. You will also complete a short written or video reflective analysis. Click Earn This Microcredential to learn more!

You will be charged $25 by the badge provider. You'll be charged at the point you submit your badge for final review.

CLARIFICATIONS

This microcredential and the others in the Google Advanced stack are meant for educators to earn after completing the Google Fundamentals stack. Educators completing this microcredential will demonstrate their understanding of how to use various advanced G-Suite resources for professional growth and leadership.

IMPORTANT TERMS

Add-On: A third party feature that can be added to a G-Suite application such as Docs or Sheets that increases the functionality of the application.

Google Chrome Extension: Extensions are small software programs that customize the browsing experience.

Curate: The process of searching for, saving, retrieving, and sharing online resources.

Formative Assessment: An informal procedure conducted by teachers during the learning process in order to modify teaching and learning activities to improve student outcomes.

BACKGROUND SCENARIO

Mrs. Hopper wants to better organize materials for her students and their parents. She creates a public Google Site where she includes a Google Calendar with class events and assignments, a course syllabus and disclosure documents, announcements, links to online resources, and examples of student work. She also includes Google slide presentations and a shared Google Drive folder with classroom material.

Mr. Black spends too much time each morning reading, responding to, organizing, and finding emails in his ever-expanding gmail inbox. He uses labels and filters to organize mail, creates Google contact lists to send group emails, and responds quickly with canned responses. From within gmail, he saves attachments to Google Drive, notes to Google Keep and events to Google Calendar. Additionally, he uses the Yet another Mail Merge add-on in Google Sheets to send and track personalized emails.

EVIDENCE OPTIONS

Student Work: Submit a Google Sheet with links to at least 3 of your learners’ Google Site digital portfolios they have used consistently over a length of time as an evidence of their learning. This evidence should demonstrate your effective and consistent use of Google Sites to support digital portfolios.

Lesson Plan: Submit a lesson plan you have used in your instruction that includes a formative assessment created with Google Forms using the self-grading quiz function. In addition, use the AutoMastery Forms Add-on to differentiate student instruction based on results of the assessment. In the lesson plan, include an editable copy of your Google Form. This evidence should demonstrate your effective and consistent use of Google Forms and add-ons to support formative assessment.

Testimonial: Submit written or video testimonials from at least 2 learners describing the way you use Google Classroom consistently and effectively to improve student collaboration, optimize learner/teacher workflow, and manage learner-paced projects. The testimonial should touch on various features of Google Classroom (e.g., Share to Classroom extension, Quizzes, Materials, Questions, and Assignments). This evidence should demonstrate your effective and consistent use of Google Classroom.
Note: If using Google Classroom with students in a school setting, personal gmail accounts are not permitted.


Testimonial: Submit written or video testimonials from at least 2 learners describing how you support them in using a variety of Google Chrome extensions to increase their productivity in the classroom. The learners should discuss how they integrate these tools into their course work to increase communication, collaboration, creation, and curation skills. This evidence should demonstrate your effective and consistent use of a range of Google Chrome extensions to support instruction and learning.



Web Site: Submit the public URL for a Google Calendar that you use consistently to support instruction with a targeted group of learners. Include evidence that you use the calendar to create and send calendar invitations, create recurring events, and attach documents. This evidence should demonstrate your effective and consistent use of Google Calendar to support instruction and learning.

Web Site: Submit a viewable link to a Google Drive Folder that contains the form(s), associated Google Sheet(s), and/or document(s) from at least one of the following add-ons: (a) Form Publisher (Forms); (b) Form Ranger (Forms); (c)
DocAppender (Forms), or (d) Autocrat (Sheets).
These should be artifacts from your instruction, and should demonstrate how the use of add-ons has increased workflow, efficiency, and/or data analysis within your professional setting.


Web Site: Submit a link to a Google Sheets spreadsheet, or folder of a series of Google Sheets spreadsheets, that demonstrates effective collection and analysis of data over time (e.g. a unit, a term). The sheet(s) should include all of the following: (1) conditional formatting; (2) sorting; (3) formulas (e.g. average); (4) charts and/or pivot tables.
Please redact names/personal information from the data and make sure the Sheet (or folder of Sheets) is shared with ANYONE with the link CAN VIEW. This evidence should demonstrate your effective and consistent use of Google Sheets data analytics to support instruction and learning.

Web Site: Submit a link to a Google Site that you have used with learners over time that includes all of the following: (1) calendar; (2) syllabus or course description; (3) resources; (4) announcements; (5) images/videos; (6) Google Slide presentation.
Make sure the site is published and shared with ANYONE with the link. This evidence should demonstrate your effective and consistent use of advanced features of Google Sites to support instruction and learning.


Screencast: Using a Google Chrome extension such as Screencastify, submit a narrated screencast demonstrating how you are using Chrome Extensions to curate web resources for your professional and teaching practice. Examples of extensions include Google Keep, Pinterest, Evernote, Pocket, Tab Cloud, etc.Your screencast should demonstrate your effective and consistent use of a variety of curation tools.




Screencast: Using a Google Chrome extension such as Screencastify, submit a narrated screencast of your Gmail account. Your narration should describe your use of these advanced features of Gmail: (1) add a signature; (2) add a canned response; (3) create labels to organize emails; (4) create and apply filters; (5) create contact labels for emailing groups. This evidence should demonstrate your effective and consistent use of Gmail to support instruction and learning.



Candidate's Choice: Submit another type of evidence to demonstrate your consistent use of Google tools to optimize workflow, analyze and interpret data, and organize course and school materials more effectively.

Candidates are required to make 2 evidence submission(s).

Review Criteria

1. The evidence demonstrates a proficient use of the selected G-Suite tools with required functionality.

2. The evidence demonstrates that the educator uses advanced features of Google Apps effectively to optimize workflow, analyze and interpret data, and/or organize course and school materials more efficiently.

3. The evidence demonstrates that the educator has used Google Apps consistently over time to optimize workflow, analyze and interpret data, and/or organize course and school materials more effectively.

3. The reflection demonstrates a clear plan for how to continue and improve the use of the selected G-Suite tools in the future.
