Consistent with staff development research, the REACH Day 3 is a follow-up workshop, recommended to take place 8-10 weeks after the REACH two-day training. Participants will have had sufficient time to implement the multicultural teaching strategies and lesson plans, and assess their impact with students. The Day 3 training reminder is sent to participants requesting that they 1) bring a personal, significant cultural item to share in a 3-minute presentation, and 2) bring at least one example of a multiculturally infused lesson plan that they have used in a classroom setting, and 3) share successes and difficulties in using their grade level manual curriculum. To review understanding and application of the previously learned 5 REACH Basic Principles, participants are assigned to pair or triad team. Each team removes an item from a grab bag, is given time to decide how the item is related to the assigned basic principle, and then reports out to the large group. The purposes of #Stages of Multicultural Growth” activity is used to establish individual and organizational realization of multicultural growth. This assessment encourages a commitment to engage in an ongoing process toward greater multicultural competence. Topic related videos and a diversity perspective presentation enhance the interactive workshop discussion and activities.
