This microcredential focuses on advanced integration of Google search functions in your practice. Teaching advanced online skills is a vitally important part of modern instruction. If learners can efficiently search online and understand how to verify the information they find, they will develop essential inquiry and critical thinking skills relevant in the classroom and beyond.

To earn this 0.5 credit microcredential you will submit two types of evidence from the list below to demonstrate your competency in using advanced Google search functions to support learners' research and inquiry skills. Fees
If you submit this microcredential for review, you will be assessed an administrative fee of $20.00.
Clarifications
This microcredential and the others in the Google Advanced stack are intended for educators to earn after completing the Google Fundamentals stack. Educators completing this microcredential are demonstrating their understanding of how to use G-Suite for Education for to facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity. You will demonstrate that you know how to design interactive curricula, teach beyond the four walls of the classroom, teach students online skills to research, and help give students a voice.
Important Terms
Google Plus: An Internet-based social network owned and operated by Google.

Learning Center: Google's G Suite help center, which includes training guides, tips, user examples, and other resources.

Google Classroom: Classroom is a free service for schools, non-profits, and anyone with a personal Google account. Classroom makes it possible for learners and instructors to connect—inside and outside of schools. Classroom saves time and paper, and makes it easy to create classes, distribute assignments, communicate, and stay organized.

Blogger: A free online resource to create, host, and update your own web log (blog).
Background Scenario / How This Will Help You
Imagine you are a teacher responsible for multiple subjects. Your goal is to create engaging, self-directed content in all areas, but student self-direction means you will have different activities across a variety of subject areas running simultaneously in your classroom. You’ve decided to use video to consistently reach each student. You begin to use instructional videos in order to ‘clone the teacher’, but you’re worried that your students aren’t engaged by the current static videos. You decide to investigate how you can use YouTube to insert interactivity into your videos. How can you make your instructional videos more engaging and encourage interactivity?

Select ONE of the evidence options below to demonstrate your preparation and planning to use G-Suite tools to support learning.
Lesson Plan: Submit an interactive, innovative lesson plan that incorporates Google Forms. This should be a lesson plan that you have used with your learners. See the Using Google Forms to Create a "Choose Your Own Adventure" document in Resources as an example. Your lesson plan should align with standards for your grade level and/or subject area. This evidence should demonstrate your effective use of Google forms to support instruction. In a separate section of the lesson plan, include citations for research supporting your instructional approach. (See the resources section for examples to cite.)
Unit Plan: Submit a unit plan for a hackathon you have organized at your school, district, or other institution. Your hackathon unit plan must incorporate a range of Google tools, and should include the following basic elements: (1) Developing an agenda; (2) Collecting or brainstorming problems; (3) Pitching problems to be solved; (4) Formulating solutions; and (5) pitching solutions. You may use the Open Data Hackathon Guide included in the Resources section as an example. This evidence should demonstrate your effective and consistent use of Google tools to support instruction. In a separate section of the unit plan, include citations for research supporting your instructional approach. (See the resources section for examples to cite.)

Video: Submit a 5-6 minute video or screencast with highlights of one or more of your students engaging in a Search Quest you have designed. You may use the Search Quest Template and the Search Research documents included in the Resources section for support. This evidence should demonstrate your effective and consistent use of Google Search to support instruction. Be sure to follow your district/charter guidelines for student privacy.

Review Criteria
Criterion 1. The evidence demonstrates a proficient use of the selected G-Suite tools to facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity.

Criterion 2. The evidence demonstrates that the educator uses advanced features of Google Apps effectively to optimize workflow, analyze and interpret data, and/or organize course and school materials more efficiently.

Criterion 3. The evidence demonstrates proficiency in engaging in professional growth and leadership, increasing efficiency and saving time, and facilitating and inspiring student learning and creativity.
Reflection Prompts
Standing and delivering lectures with slides is a fast way to lose student attention. Shift the learning cycle to allow students to explore slides independently rather than from a lecture. What elements must be included to ensure learning is taking place?
How can or do you use Google Scholar along with the G Suite for Education suite to help your students? Consider the workflows and training that would need to be done to get your students to effectively use academic sources in their research projects.
